[SOLVED] Synaptics tapping not working

Hi,

this topic has been discussed but i couldn't find a working solution - which is weird.

I'm trying to get the touchpad working on a Samsung N150 with openbox.
As far as i understand the .fdi rules arn't needed anymore and that setting the
behavior is done in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf - right?

This is my current conf, its the default so no magic here

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "touchpad catchall"
        Driver "synaptics"
        MatchIsTouchpad "on"
          Option "TapButton1" "1"
          Option "TapButton2" "2"
          Option "TapButton3" "3"
EndSection

I can activate the tapping with gsynaptics (gpointing-device-settings has no effect on my system), but the settings arn't saved even when starting gsynaptics-init by the openbox's autostart.sh

Any suggestions how to permanently activate the tapping? It drives me crazy

Thank you
VR

EDIT: After removing some gnome-stuff it's working now - i think gnome-settings-daemon caused a conflict

Take a look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.  Here is an excerpt from mine:

The (--) tags indicate the device is using defaults.  The (**) indicate that the setting came from a configuration file.

Is hald running on your system?   If so, sift through the output of hal-device   It is verbose, so less is your friend.  What are the settings according to it?

If hald is not running, the config file should have authority.  I don't see any errors, but the Xorg log might show them up if they exist.

Re: [SOLVED] Synaptics tapping not working

Here is the (as i think) relevant part of the hal-device, it says the driver is evdev

19: udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_i8042_i8042_AUX3_port_logicaldev_input'
  linux.hotplug_type = 2  (0x2)  (int)
  linux.subsystem = 'input'  (string)
  volume.ignore = false  (bool)
  input.device = '/dev/input/event6'  (string)
  input.product = 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad'  (string)
  info.subsystem = 'input'  (string)
  info.product = 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad'  (string)
  linux.sysfs_path = '/sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input6/event6'  (string)
  info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_i8042_i8042_AUX3_port'  (string)
  input.originating_device = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_i8042_i8042_AUX3_port'  (string)
  info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_i8042_i8042_AUX3_port_logicaldev_input'  (string)
  input.x11_driver = 'evdev'  (string)
  info.category = 'input'  (string)
  info.capabilities = { 'input', 'input.touchpad' } (string list)
  linux.device_file = '/dev/input/event6'  (string)

And this is the Xorg-log, in the lower third it seems to recognize the settings from 10-synaptics.conf
