chroot to console Arch on old Debian install possible?

I have been using Arch for about a year now and will never go back. However i have a small problem. I have an embedded device that runs an old installation of Debian, its not possible to upgrade, and there are several programs i wish to run that need updated libraries.

I have been compiling these libraries manually using alternative prefix's but this is really quite hard, time consuming and is starting to cause conflicts and problems. Is it possible to create a basic Arch installation, configure and install the required programs, move the installation to the device and chroot into the installation? I only require console based applications such as tmux, vim etc..

Just to make things harder the device uses a Sparc CPU.

So is this type of thing possible? or is there an alternative I'm missing?
