Re: shadows
No conky shadow and quite nice on windows.. there is plenty of adjustment you can make eg making it a more transparent black, larger radius and the sigma thing too - maybe your issues are due to your graphics and if you report the issues to the project then can fix them? It is early days for a potentially great bit of software.

Is there any way to only have shadows on "real" windows and not menus and notifications?

Can't find that in the config but leave a comment over on the project site and your wish may be granted.
I have a new GTK and matching Openbox theme if anyone is interested.. (click image to get the theme)

I just recently changed it so don't have the exact RC but very close
Maybe if you swap the values for Taskbar background ID and Active Taskbar ID it will be more like the one you want

Don't mean to hijack, but I've noticed that I get tearing when moving windows around with cario-compmgr running (and compositing). Does anyone else have this issue? I've been looking for a sync to vblank in the configure gui but I'm not seeing anything obvious.

Did you try to desactivate some plugins to see if the problem disappears? At the moment I'm only using 3 active plugins. I don't have any kind of problem at the moment.

Relevant information could also be the type of graphics card. Do you also get tearing while watching video with a direct rendering enabled output?

Deadbeef, best GUI player that I know. I've modified the sources a bit tho, added some global keyboard shortcuts.
The sourcecode is simple and easy to follow, if you need to modify it.

I am also working on a similar tool, which would be good looking, but with much less code length by using system commands instead of dbus signals. Its not ready yet, but its quite usable. If anyone is interested in testing it out, clone this git folder to any location. Current it looks like this with and without compositing enabled:

in love with flies
Yes, flies are awesome.
It's amazing how many things you can learn from such a tiny insect.
Configuration is almost the same as my last screenshot, it feels great.
Details are in screenshot thanks to screenfetch and configs can be found on my 'aspire' hg bitbucket repo (check my sig).
Let me know what you think!
Good night,

See below--but changing plugins didn't make a difference either.

I've done more testing and find that even without compositing I get the tearing going on. No tearing occurs in mplayer, however. I am running an nVidia 8800GTX with the drivers from extra, but have tried the beta drivers in the aur as well--same result. Interestingly, running compiz standalone, I do not get the tearing--it respects the sync-to-vblank options set in nvidia-settings and its own settings manager.
From what I read here, it appears this is a fundamental problem with the way Xorg works--is this correct?
