Hi,
I have had a problem in playing games. Maybe this problem is not caused by catalyst, but I believe that I can gain some helpful ideas from many kindful guys in this forum.
I am using catalyst-test in AUR and xorg-server 1.9 in repo. Most applications work well. But since last updating, when I playing SDL games. such as Assaultcube and Zaz, the mouse is fixing and could not move. The left button and right button is well.
Any ideas?
Thanks advance.

Thanks, it affects all SDL applications.
I think it maybe xorg1.9's fault.

I have a lot of issues and freeze with the new chromium-dev from aur and especially when I run it with:
chromium-dev --enable-gpu-plugin --enable-accelerated-compositing --enable-accelerated-2d-canvas --enable-webgl
do you experience the same ?
DO I have to run it with these command to have accelerated gpu on chromium ?
thank you for your answer

It might also be interesting which 'initial modes' he meant. the xorg.conf ones or some ati intern ones ?

//EDIT: X -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf seems to work every 2, or 3 tries o.O

So it seems that this is an issue of acpi modules ?

Hi, I'm having problems updating arch, there's a conflict between xf86-input-evdev and xorg-server-1.8-catalyst-maximize-fix
I have the output to pacman -Syu here, it's in spanish but I think it's understandable for everyone (If there's a way to make the output in english, please tell me and I will post it in english)
thanks

This conflict is normal, because Catalyst needs xorg-server 1.8 and xf86-input-evdev wants (or whatever) xorg-server 1.9. Ignore the update for this package (and some other xorg-server 1.9 releated packages) and go on.
Or you could use this test-package from Catalyst.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here (both to these forums and to arch). I've managed to successfully install the catalyst-test package and get everything up and running. I resolved a problem with amdcccle not running due to a missing lib by downloading the qt package, and I've got my audio working via hdmi now thanks to the wiki. Flash and videos are working wonderfully... Basically, everything works as it should EXCEPT that amdcccle changes will not survive an X-session restart. Every time I boot up, I have to open amdcccle and change my resolution settings (specifically my refresh rate, upon restart it reverts to 61 Hz instead of the 60 Hz that I would like). I've tried messing around with aticonfig a bit but haven't succeeded in solving the issue. If anyone knows of a solution/workaround for this it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm sorry if this question has been asked here before, I haven't looked through ALL of the 100+ pages in this thread because that's a lot of pages to sift through for possibly no answer. I've googled the problem, but haven't found a solution that would work for me. As you can guess, this isn't a HUGE issue since all I have to do on restart is run amdcccle and reapply my settings... it's just a nuisance to do so.

How is everyone's window resizing performance? Mine is still a bit slow at times.....my laptop with Intel graphics is about the same speed. This is with:
catalyst-2.6.35-ARCH 10.10-999
catalyst-test 10.10-999
lib32-catalyst-utils-test 10.10-222
xorg-server-catalyst-maximize-fix 1.9.0-1
Is anyone running the standard xorg-server with the latest catalyst?
Another thing worth noting is that it looks like they improved the driver for DirectX, as I can actually play Source games now. Before they would just crash. It's still unplayable (I'm trying some different registry keys), but it's a start.

Are you running it with sudo? It needs root permission because it writes to /etc/ati/amdpcsdb.
Also, welcome to the forums.

I've tried running both amdcccle and aticonfig using sudo and as root. I've tried both manually editing and completely rewriting my xorg.conf file and then using sudo aticonfig -i /etc/X11/xorg.conf to import the settings. If amdpcsdb was written in any sort of intelligible format instead of:

Well it's not supposed to be a file that you edit, it's a database....not sure if it's SQL or what, but you can try this:
kill X, get to a console tty
sudo rm /etc/ati/amdpcsdb
sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
sudo aticonfig --initial
Then startx, set your settings with amdcccle run as root, then restart and see what happens.
As far as 61Hz goes....I had the same problem in Windows, except it was doing 59 instead of 60. I think it's a bug...possibly some sort of rounding error with certain cards. In games with vsync enabled I always had 60 FPS via FRAPS, so I really wasn't worried about it.

@Slyder:
afaik both screen resolution and screen refresh rate are stored in xorg.conf, check out how different it is after changing refresh in amdcccle.
I also forced proper refresh rate with amdcccle (into 75Hz) but for me those settings aren't changing with every X start...
So please check how xorg.conf is looking after amdcccle changes, and after restart.

Yes, i'm using standard xorg-server for months. With catalyst 10.9 (ofcourse with xserver 1.8) or 10.10-test it's working very fine.

Bad news (mainly for me)
Today is the day when new catalyst 10.10 should be released, unfortunatelly my main 500GB hdd with arch x86_64 just refuse to work
Yesterday it was working perfectly, today - no signal, completely dead... most important data is backed up, but still i lost many own scripts, soft, infos, books, i can't even count it right now <sigh>... fsck!
That's why catalyst will probably be updated later, like tomorrow.
Sorry for inconvenience.

I've updated aur's catalyst main packages to 10.10
Seems it's working fine at least on my poor i686 system.
i'm not able to test it precisely, but there are not so many changes comparing to 10.10 RC1 (catalyst-test 10.10-999) so it should be just ok.
Any info about it work will be appreciated.
Repo will be updated tomorrow.

After installing the new catalyst drivers, I appear to have mucked something up. I installed catalyst-utils and catalyst-hook and whatever its depends are. After a logout, the screen went nuts so I restarted the computer. Now when it gets to where KDM would normally start up, the screen either looses its signal or displays worthless garbage. I'm not sure how to roll back my changes or how to get to the terminal to check my logs. Any suggestions? I've also tried alt-function-whatever key to get to another session but that doesn't work either. Thanks for the help!

You probably didn't check the text output when you installed catalyst-hook. It quite surely read as follows:
(1/1) installing catalyst-hook [###############################] 100%
Building fglrx module for 2.6.35-ARCH kernel ...
+ echo 'Failed!!! Check out log: /var/log/catalyst-install.log'
Failed!!! Check out log: /var/log/catalyst-install.log
The build of the module failed so of course you can't start X. So my recommendation for now for you:
1. When you see the grub os selection screen press "e" (for edit), then go down to the second line, press "e" again and add a "3" to the end of the line. Press enter and a "b" afterwards should boot you into textmode.
Either:
2a. Install catalyst instead of catalyst-hook, which works.
2b. You didn't sound to be familiar with editing PKGBUILDs. But if I misread you might follow my suggestion/solution I posted on the catalyst-hook package board in aur: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40834
(If there's a way to make the output in english, please tell me and I will post it in english)
Put an LC_ALL=en_US.utf8 in front of your command. Your example would read as follows:
LC_ALL=en_US.utf8 sudo pacman -Syu

You should install 1.9 server from arch repos and install catalyst and cataly-utils package from aur. If you are on 64 bits system you should install lib32-catalyst-utils for 32 bits apps accelerated like wine or google earth.

ok, thanks for the infos
i've updated aur's catalyst-hook and catalyst-daemon, [catalyst] repo and wiki
Again - i'm not able to test does hook and daemon works fine on x86_64 - i've tested it only on my virtual arch64 and there it seems to be ok.
I decided to wait with arch64 installation untill my hdd goes back from warranty service.
Important note:
my catalyst 10.10 build supports only xorg-server 1.9, so feel free to install it from [extra] repo.

Hey, I can see catalyst 10.10 in firefox when I visit the url (http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/x86_64/)
However, "pacman -Ss catalyst" still shows the old catalyst (10.9) despite doing a pacman -Syy
Am I doing something wrong?

maybe once again try to 'pacman -Syy' ?
