X.org automatically swithes screens

Hi there,

I'm running Gnome on Arch 686.

After logging in, the screen randomly turn to black and I have to use "ctrl+alt+F[1-6]" to switch to a virtual terminal then use "ctrl+alt+F7" to switch back to show the X screen again.

Can you advice me on possible causes of this problem?

Thanks!

Re: X.org automatically swithes screens

I will give the little help I can offer.

What do you mean by "X.org automatically swit[c]hes screens"? Is it your belief that it gives focus to a different display? One instance where I know that the screen would turn black like that is if a new X display is initiated, like when running "X :1". You could look for multiple instances of X by running

ps aux|grep X

... the next time that happens.

You could also look at the logs in /var/log/ for hints.

It may also help if you provided information about your graphics card.

Re: X.org automatically swithes screens

When you switch back, does X functions properly or do you get kicked back to your login manager?

Windows xp -> windows 7 -> Ubuntu -> Debian -> Arch x64 (AwesomeWM) + Windows 7 x64

Thanks! I tried with

ps aux | grep X

but didn't see anything suspicious.

The graphic card is Intel 865G.
