I am baffled as to why Mplayer and Vlc can't read or wont play my dvds although Totem does straight after install. What does Totem do differently and how do i fix that. Thnx

Where did you set your player(s) looking for a playback device? Is it /dev/hdc (or whatever your DVD-ROM is), or /media/dvdrom? Do you have HAL running?
Totem gets its settings from xine, mplayer and vlc have their own settings.

I didn't have HAL running but i have now and its still the same. The device is set to /mnt/dvd for movies and /mnt/cd for audio. They are basically the same device though. Thnx
