Hello everyone!
I'm trying to get my iPhone (ashamed) to connect to Arch so i can put some music on it - I am looking for the somewhat native support that Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx has by default and as far as i've understood from the wiki this support requires the following packages:
libimobiledevice
usbmuxd
ipheth (for tethering)
I have installed these but the device still doesnt show up in Rhythmbox nor nautilus.
But a quick look at dmesg shows the following:
(I connected/disconnected it several times)
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2
ipheth 1-1:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet device attached
usbcore: registered new interface driver ipheth
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 2
ipheth 1-1:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet now disconnected
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
ipheth 1-1:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet device attached
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 3
ipheth 1-1:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet now disconnected
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
ipheth 1-1:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet device attached
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 4
ipheth 1-1:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet now disconnected
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
ipheth 1-1:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet device attached
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 5
ipheth 1-1:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet now disconnected
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
ipheth 1-1:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet device attached
It seems to me that the device is recognized, but its not mounted? This was done automatically in Ubuntu and i dont want to do this manually everytime i connect this piece of crap
Is there anything i've missed in the process maybe? I wanna point out that im not running a jailbreaked device despite that this worked flawless in Ubuntu.
EDIT:
Apparently a reboot solved the issue!

Its not a bug - its a feature!

All I had to do is install gvfs-afc, which pulls in usbmuxd, libplist and libimobiledevice. Besides gvfs-afc, you'll need a recent version of libgpod but it should be in the repos.

I tried the same but no results plus I have realized that my iphone is detected and connected but automatically is disconnected in less than a second without any chance to do nothing: (here I tried a couple of times)
$dmesg | grep ipheth
usbcore: registered new interface driver ipheth
ipheth 1-7:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet device attached
ipheth 1-7:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet now disconnected
ipheth 1-7:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet device attached
ipheth 1-7:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet now disconnected
also I got a message error saying :
The iphone couldn't be mounted
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)
and finally after several tries to connect the iphone to my computer a process called iphone-set-info loads it 100%
Please any help

Update: When the iphone-set-info loads my computer to 100% my iphone can be connected and works fine. Anybody knows what's going on?

Did you guys manage to get your phone working?
I have:
- an iphone 4
- libimobiledevice
- usbmuxd
- ipheth
- ideviceinstaller
My phone is connected, I can browse it, I can look at the installed applications using ideviceinstaller, but I CANNOT tether... ipheth is registered (I put it in rc.conf) but it does not say anything when I plug the phone with tethering activated!
It used to work well on ubuntu...
Any idea?
