keyboard misbehaving on t61p

After some update recently (within the last week/week and a half) I have been having problems with my keyboard inputs.  I am running Gnome and Openbox and my Lenovo t61p and the problems persist under both GUI's.  It's hard to explain but I can't type a word with the same letter twice ("bill", "book", "nanny") without having to pause between the repeated letter.  This also effects using backspace, space, the arrow keys and my volume control buttons.  I can hold things down and they work normally (i.e. decreasing the volume by a large amount) but trying to just decrease the volume by two makes me pause between each depression of the key (same with space, backspace, and letters).  I am using the generic keyboard drivers specified in the beginner's guide (I believe: xf86-input-keyboard).  I'm not sure what would be causing this problem as it came out of nowhere but any help is appreciated.  I love Arch and this is the only problem I have had with it so far that I couldn't resolve on my own.
