logging out of WM is not putting me in the console. Why?

i have this in /etc/inittab
x:5:once:/bin/su user -l -c '/usr/bin/startx' >/dev/null 2>&1
and this in .xinitrc:
rox -p default ; exec icewm-session
if i do in icewm start menu/ logout the X disappears but i get no console.
what should i do?
