I made this Archlinux promo video in a couple of hours yesterday after watching Ubuntu's nicely made Maverick one.
Enjoy ![]()
EDIT: updated version available on youtube

Thanks everybody. Good of me to show the safety warning for such a short period of time, considering the glaring grammatical error ![]()
Archman-Cro: let's be honest : having someone move directly from windows to archlinux isn't going to be fun for anybody. An average non-tech-oriented user will be awfully confused and frustrated, and will probably tell everybody how awfull "this linux thing" is ("they don't even have a mouse pointer! it's *ALL* text!"), and, in the unlikely event the user starts asking on the forum (or worse, on IRC), the people who will try to help him will be frustrated too. If a standard user wants to see what a decent LInux distro is like, without getting all techy, they are definitely better served with Ubuntu or a derived offering ( I tend to propose "Mint" to that kind of users)

That was very nice ![]()

Sammy, actually, I agree with you. I've started with ubuntu too. The learning curve is slow, but at least it gives some starting knowledge to go further with later. ![]()

I really liked it!
The music kinda got on my nerves, but other than that, it was great!

Well done, thanks for sharing... :-)

Very good I like it. Simple like Arch. Can we have a 720p of it without the compression artifacts that youtube "put" on the 360p videos...?

Thanks ![]()
I'll rerender the movie without the typos at the end, and I'll put it online along with the files needed in case you want to make it better.

The source files and the original clip with and without audio track can be found at http://www.cosmic-bandito.com/archanim.html.
Don't forget to run the included "fix_path.sh" before using the source files.
Have fun ![]()

The last pic with the ubuntu tip made me facepalm. It's an arch promo, not ubuntu promo.

Awebb, I wouldn't want you to go all Picard on me, so check the alternative version at http://www.cosmic-bandito.com/archanim.html or on youtube ![]()

I wouldn't mind seeing more simple videos like this. Great job!

Nicely done I must say. I presume you used Blender to get it all finished?
The bleeding edge, with the blood oozing down, amazingly done!
I guess the pro: it tells about Archlinux, the blood oozing down to form 'bleeding edge', I kind of liked the music
the nay: add more flashy animations,I know it will take more time but will make sure it's as good as the Ubuntu version

Thanks
Blender was 'just' used to create the blood drop : fluid animation on an invisible 3D version of the Arch "A", composited into the 2D anim in Cinelerra.
Obviously the Ubuntu ad is much more complex, but that is also resulting from Ubuntu's inbuilt complexity. They have lots of (semi) hardcoded features they can advertise. One of Arch's main aspect is that it is like a blank slate : it is whatever you want it to be, end-featurewise.(oh ... and add to that that I did it for fun, and they did it for some profit'y purpose ![]()
