Dummie newbie question about pacman.conf vs pacman.conf.pacnew

Just out of curiosity, everything seems to work in my setup,  but why is it three pacman.conf files? Which one is used? Can I delete anyone?

One is /etc/pacman.conf and the other is /var/abs/core/pacman/pacman.conf.
Then there is the one ending with pacnew under /etc.  No one of them seems to be identical.

/etc/pacman.conf is the one that is used.
/etc/pacman.conf.pacnew is a new version of that file with changes for you to merge.

/var/abs/ is the ABS tree, nothing to do with your system...

The wiki will explain more.
