Can't find the proper node

I'm using a usb modem and every 15-20 minutes my usb ports lose power, and it shuts down my internet so i have to manually unplug it to get it working again.I have a ps2 to usb adapter and im going to see if that helps with the power loss but im not sure which node to us to update my wvdial.conf file.Ive tried using ls -d /dev/* but i just get a list with all my nodes and no way to tell which one is connected to my ps2 ports besides try them all which wouldn't be a problem but there's at least 200 of them.
thx

I found the node /dev/input but i can use it to connect,i get a message saying  Cannot open /dev/input: Is a directory

Re: Can't find the proper node

Well yeah.. /dev/input/ is indeed a directory, and it is also to do with input devices (keyboards, mice, etc) and not serial devices like your modem.

Instead of attempting to use your serial port, try to debug the original problem. For a start, check your logs before and after the connection fails.

Re: Can't find the proper node

Have you tried plugging your modem on a wall-powered USB hub? USB modems are notorious for sucking more power than USB is supposed to deliver. A hub might or might not help for the same reason though...
