Sony Vaio F series Touchpad problem

My touchpad does not work on my SOny Vaio F series. It did work on windows7 but i do not know how to make it work on ArchLinux. I found this:

        In order to get events from the mouse, the following line needs to be added to /etc/default/grub:
        GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="i8042.nopnp"

        Don't ask me why, as I don't know the answer.

        Although a bit off-topic in this particular bug, I have also attached a document which covers various issues with Vaio F12 laptops and Ubuntu Lucid.                  Hopefully it will be useful for users of other distributions as well. I give my full permission to do whatever you want to do with it.

However I do not find /etc/default/grub and this is said to work under Ubuntu..

Thanks,

Re: Sony Vaio F series Touchpad problem

That's a kernel parameter. You don't have /etc/default/grub because you're not using grub2, but you can use this with grub-legacy by simply adding i8042.nopnp=1 to the kernel line in your grub configuration. A little more googling would have provided this information for you.

FYI you can't attach documents to forum posts, which explains why your document has not shown up here. smile Feel free to submit anything you want to the Arch wiki.
