In-ram installation

I need to deploy an embedded Arch Linux installation which mantain the same state at every single boot, with the opportunity to save changes made on reboot.
Puppy Linux do the same but it has a lot of software I don't need.
Is it possible to configure Arch Linux as Puppy Linux do?

Thank you,
Andrea

Re: In-ram installation

Perhaps ..Larch.. or CTKArchLive.. will give you what you desire.

I use CTK which has open box.  It is 500MB of Arch packages which are listed in the repo.

CTK can be run in ram ,,,minimum of 600MB needed.

It has persistent function with addons and a program  you can use to create addons.

Either one of the "live" progs will do a good job in Arch.

I have installed VLC in my CTK live as well as mirage and feh.  These perform well as aufs installs.

Have a try with CTK which is in french but has an addon for english.

Check out the wiki.  Initially, ....set xkbmap us... will get english in the terminal commands.

Download is ~550MB.  DD to install to flash drive.

Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

Re: In-ram installation

Thanks, I'm downloading CTK.
I see the version 0.6 is imminent, it will provide the ability to start from base system (without X server). Great!

Re: In-ram installation

Hi. smile
0.6 version is out ! In english, what is more.

It has support for copy to ram from boot, which is far cleaner than switching mountpoints when booted like the 0.5 did.
The base iso will be released very soon. It's mainly for people having 512MB flash sticks, and it will have X and the base desktop. (expected size ~330MB)
The rest is up to the user... people can make addons, add them to the ISO itself or append it on a partition on the remaining space.

I don't really know why you would like a livecd without X ? If so can't you take the netinstall iso ? wink

Re: In-ram installation

Thank you Calimero,
I need text only to build a little box which permit me to connect by VPN or by an ssh tunnel plus, more other daemons.
To reduce power consumption I want to build it with an usb memory stick and to be shure it will works flawlessly I want to load it in ram excluding any write to usb stick. (usb will never damage and software configuration will be forever clean)
That's why I don't need X.

Now I download it, probably I'll disable X from init level.
Best regards,
Andrea
