clock late

Every time I shutdown and turn on computer my clock is always late 27 mins, I set up correct time and when I turn it on again, its late again, I tried with both UTC and localtime in rc.conf but no effect, clock is always late when I turn on computer after shutdown, timezone is also correct.

Re: clock late

Have a look what jasonwryan told you. How old is your computer? Maybe, your CMOS battery is dead?

Re: clock late

You can always try http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Time#Time_Skew
Which clock do you set up - the system one or the hardware one?

Edit: Any chance you change to Daylight Saving Time / Winter Time? https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=107670
If your problem indeed got solved, please write how did you fix it for posterity's sake.

Re: clock late

Ok, it's solved now, I thought NTP solved it because after installing NTP and rebooting time was correct, until this morning after shutdown it was late again, hwclock was 27min off, and the hwclock --systohc fixed it, time is now correct on both hardware and system clock after shutdown too, thanks

Re: clock late

Is your BIOS clock correct?  Can you post the contents of /var/lib/hwclock/adjtime?

Re: clock late

I am experiencing the same thing, except my clock is slow by 42 minutes. Seems to reset itself when it is restarted occasionally, sometimes it rights itself. I am not using NTP and I have made sure that it is synced with the hardware clock and it is unlikely to be the battery as the laptop is almost new.

My contents of /var/lib/hwclock/adjtime is :

-3358.424266 1288877099 0.000000
1288874161

Re: clock late

@ neutrix
Your adjtime file says your clock is 3358 seconds late (the first number in the first line). Have you considered removing that file, as suggested in my first post? Read 'The Adjust Function' part of 'man hwclock' if you want more info.

This -3358.424266 is an (absolute) far too big value. Please do as karol suggested. Remove the adjtime file, resync hwclock if necessary and then reboot. The adjtime will be rebuilt with proper values then.

You may want to monitor the adjtime file contents if your clock problems persist. If the skew factor increases rapidly probably something in your hardware is faulty. Or consider setting up a UTC only system.
