Hey all,
I'm new to Arch Linux and these forums! I've been distro-hopping for quite some time now, mostly with Ubuntu & Debian versions. I've come across this distro before but was scared to try it due to its complex setup. Now that I have tried it, it's not so complex! I have Arch up and running on my Sony VAIO laptop currently with GNOME, as it was the easiest desktop to setup for now. Can't wait to delve in further customization-wise. This is a great distro to learn from and tink with!

Hello everybody.
I'm not new to Arch (I've been using it for more than 2 years) and I think is, by far, the best Linux distribution out there...
My first linux distribution was slackware back in 1995 (I'm 42 years old).
I'm joining today in this forum... see you around!

Hello arch community, my name is Ken, I am 31 and trying arch for the first time. I came here because recently i've been getting aggrivated with the more "dumbed down" distros. I came here to get serious and learn about my operating system. I've been using linux based systems off and on for i'd say about 2 years steady now. It may be a small accomplishment but im glad to say installed arch on my first try thanks to the wiki. Anyhow this post started shifting left for a momment. Nice to meet everyone i'll see yall around the forums.

Hi all, I have finally decided to take the arch plunge after approx 3 years of Ubuntu/Xubuntu and did the install with the E17 desktop. Having tinkered with a bunch of stuff over the last few years I am in awe of the extensiveness of the Arch wiki guiding me through the process; not to mention all of the how-to's etc. I am also very inspired by the whole community feel and I can't wait to get fully stuck in. A BIG BIG thank you to all those contributers to the wiki to help newcomers like myself get up and running. Cheers

Hi all. I've recently started using Linux and am using Ubuntu at the moment. I'm trying to figure out how to put Arch Linux together and I can't wait to get it done. I like the idea of Arch Linux and it sounds like something I'd like to have as an OS even though I don't really know what I am doing at the moment. I think this would be a fun and great learning experience and a great way to make friends as well. I look forward to meeting you all.

Hi All, I'm Matt, a Sysadmin from Englandland
I've been a Linux user for about 8 or 9 years, started with Slackware and have moved up (and down hehe) from there.
Finally decided to see what the deal was with Arch so I set it up on a virtual machine this morning, after spending the day tweaking and playing I have become hooked!!
I am now going to install Arch as my main OS (I am THAT impressed)
I was shocked to find how easy the install was once I took the plunge, I've not had this much fun with an OS in years!
So yeah, hi

Hi everyone. This is Neal. I'm a sysadmin in the US. I've been using GNU/Linux at work for maybe 9 or 10 years now (Red Hat and SuSE).
I've only been running it at home for the last 4 or 5 years. I was switching back and forth between Ubuntu and Fedora trying to find a way to do what I wanted. I like both of those, but when I finally decided to try Arch about 6 months ago, I think I finally found the OS I had been looking for.

Hi everyone.
I've been using Linux for about 4 years now (started with Ubuntu 6.10). A year ago I switched to Fedora. Now I wanted to try a rolling release distribution and choosed Arch, which I've been using for 2 weeks so far. It's a really pleasent experience after some configuring stuff at the beginning.

Hello all.
My name is Diabellical and I am from New Orleans, LA, USA. I am new to Linux and computing in general (Ubuntu has been my primary OS for a few months, and just recently dumped Windows altogether). The install of arch went smoothly and I can't wait to get started.
Interest wise, I am a pilot and flight instructor as well as teaching music at a local college here in New Orleans...enjoy writing music, reading, and camping.

Hi All... I'm not a complete linux newbie (I'm a certified 'Red Hat Technician'... which means I know enough to break things good and proper), but am a relative newbie to Arch having installed it briefly in June this year on an old laptop, and having moved my main media PC on to Arch a couple days ago to try to improve performance for HD video. In terms of OSes, I've worked commercially with VAX/VMS, Solaris, AIX UNIX, Red Hat Enterprise, Ubuntu and a wide range of Windows flavours (95-w7, NT Server - 2008) over the last 14 years and am loving Arch above everything I've used so far.

I am a student working on a Computer Science major, so computers are my thing. After starting with Linux a few years ago, using "newbie" distros such as Ubuntu, I really enjoyed the hands-on "Arch Way", and can see myself working with this distro more extensively. It works much better for me and I love it. I plan on using it with all of my computers that don't need anything else running.

Hello to everyone!
I just started playing with Arch, I've worked for a while with the "newbie" Ubuntu, and just thought I'd try something a little more hands on with Arch. Since I've built a couple Ubuntu servers that I've worked with only through SSH I'm no stranger to getting into CLI and editing config files directly so this should be fun! Now if only I can get my PowerBook G4 to actually install Arch I'll be in business...

Hey folks I've been using arch for a week now and I'm impressed. It was easy to install, the packages seem to be really optimized, boot and loads are fast. It is easy to config I set the whole system up in about 2 hours. AUR is great and simple to use community repos have a lot of stuff. It is rolling release I'm really happy. Thanks for the great distro. I hope to keep with you for a long time.

Howdy from Texas,
I am a Windows refugee, my nephew has been trying to convert me for years, just installed Arch on my old Dell D600, thanks to Lifehackers new article on Arch Linux and some help from my nephew, runs like a dream.
Took me a few minutes to figure this one out when I registered, I have never used Linux before except for the occasional rescue CD to fix WIndows.
date -u +%j$(uname)|sha256sum|sed 's/\W//g' really had me going for a few minutes
Thanks in advance to all those that help out here.
The more you help Linux newbies the sooner Windows will be eradicated. :-)

Just stoping in to say hello.
Name is Marc Grondin i live i canada and am 27. I had been a windows user most of my life(why i don't know lol) but last year i mad the switch to ubuntu(had used it on and off over the last few years) after deciding it was time i had more control over my pc experience(and since i had lost time to play games which is what kept me in windows). Once i found Arch(thanx to lifehacker) i knew it was time for the switch from ubuntu to Arch to gain even more control. I am no super expert but i know my way around somewhat. so far i am happy with the switch to arch no issues i could not fix myself or by doing a little googling. Glad to be a part of this community.

Hi!
After dumping windows and using Ubuntu for a while (like many others^^), i decided to switch to arch some weeks ago. Thanks to the Beginner's Guide and the excellent wiki, i haven't come across any problems i couldn't handle myself so far. Being still a linux-noob somewhat, this says a lot about the great community;) Even on my laptop almost everthing works flawlessly. So arch was the right decision for me

Hello!
So, like many, I've come from using Ubuntu for over a year. I started Arch Linux little over a week ago and I love it. Hopefully I'll get started with testing!

Hi!
When I began with Linux half a year ago, I had a look at Gentoo and stuck with it for about 3-4 weeks.
Feeling it was too time-consuming to personally address everything in the system, I reluctantly switched to Ubuntu and stuck with it for one week. Again I was dissatisfied, this time because I felt like I was having too little control.
So I looked around and discovered Arch to be the perfect combination of customzability and ease of use
