Do I need a new CMOS battery?

Had to reset the RTC Ram, because the DRAM was failing to refresh at boot. I was wondering if that would indicate that I need a new CMOS battery. The only reason I know of to get a new CMOS battery is if the BIOS settings weren't kept between boots. Since my PC is almost always on, I pretty much never use the battery.

Re: Do I need a new CMOS battery?

That might be a possibility, but as you say, the only normal notification of a failing CMOS battery is a BIOS message telling you that the BIOS settings have been reset back to defaults. The surest way to know for sure is take out the CMOS battery and test it with a multimeter. If the battery reads less than 3.00 volts it needs to be replaced.
