I found an old thread about freenx in the forums, complete with a pkgbuild. I reworked it, and then updated it with the newer versions of the packages..

Not sure what I will use it for, but it was fun to play with. I had to do some post install fiddling with stuff to get it to work. The installation docs are not very good for the freenx stuff yet. Hopefully the kde guys will get on the ball.

Do you feel like sharing your reworking, updating, and fiddling with us? I think I kicked off that old thread you're talking about, but I never got it to work on Arch, despite DXManiac's best efforts - no problem on Debian, though.

PKGBUILD and files

I had to fiddle with ssh-keygen a bit, and move keys around..I don't remember all the steps I went through...I will try to undo everything, and start from scratch again, documenting as I go.

I get "Host not found" for http://archive.kalyxo.org/pool/main/f/f … rig.tar.gz

unfortunately, it isnt. they have been having dns trouble for a while.
the easy fix is to add the following to your /etc/hosts file:

62.104.23.254 archive.kalyxo.org

I could host the freenx_0.3.1.orig.tar.gz file for the pkgbuild if other people are interested in using it.
I have the package compiled and in my repository too.

tungsten. The name of one of my desktops. It is just gkrellm with the short hostname option.

I'm very new to the arch way of dealing with repositories, but if you're talking about me adding a line to my pacman.conf file and then being able to type pacman -S freenx to get a working freenx install I am all for it. This is one of my biggest wants in Arch next to an easy to install Beagle.

What I was originally speaking to was just hosting a component of the packagebuild so that other people could compile it if needed. The archive.kylix.org site has been having dns issues for a while, and while a workaround exists, I doubt everyone wants to go adding it to their /etc/hosts file.

Very cool, I don't remember seeing it last week. I added your repository and did a pacman -S freenx-server and it downloaded and installed. The last step says that to use the nomachine key I need to erase the old one (which I did) and then run

 /usr/NX/bin/nxsetup --setup-nomachine-key

Unfortunately, when I type that there must be some format error b/c it just prints me out a brief page showing me correct syntax:

[viniosity@presidio ~]$ /usr/NX/bin/nxsetup --setup-nomachine-key
nxsetup - Setup the FreeNX server.
Syntax: nxsetup --help
nxsetup --install [--setup-nomachine-key] [--uid <nummber>] [--clean [--purge]]
nxsetup --uninstall [--purge]
--help Displays this help message
--install Install nessesary files and add the nx user
--setup-nomachine-key Allow login with the key shipped with the NoMachine
client. This is not as secure, but it simplifies the
configuration of clients.
Use this option at your own risk.
--uid <number> The nx user will be given the uid <number>.
--clean Performs an uninstall prior to the installation
--uninstall Remove log and session files, as well as the nx user
--purge Uninstall will remove extra configuration files and ssh
keys as well. Note that node.conf will always be saved.

you probably need to run the tool as root, so it can write the files it needs to.
I didn't use that option myself. I just used the --isntall flag, and ended up jockeying files around by hand..like I said. That part needs a bit of documentation.
Give this a shot, as you are missing the --install flag:

nxsetup --install --setup-nomachine-key

You might need to run that as root, or sudo'ed.
