XeTeX with microtype!

XeTeX with microtype!

I haven't checked it out yet and probably won't until it goes into RC state, but this is way beyond cool.

Re: XeTeX with microtype!

From what I understand, the only feature of microtype supported is margin kerning.

What is it that you find so cool about it? -- microtype already works with pdflatex. I'm usually perfectly happy using the autoinst script to install other fonts I need for pdflatex when I need to. Compilation is faster with pdflatex too. The only thing missing is some of the cool features of the unicode-math package for XeLaTeX.

Re: XeTeX with microtype!

The idea of having the simplicity of font handling of XeTeX, the full capabilites of OTF fonts, and the beauty of microtype is very appealing to me. I would much rather just call a font by name than run a tool like otfinst, lose a lot of the capabilities of a font if it has depth, and have to run a script every time I want to use an OTF font.

Re: XeTeX with microtype!

Depends on your needs I suppose. I mainly use open source fonts, and a lot of them have packages for pdflatex anyway. If you're using a lot of commercial OTF fonts, then I definitely see your point.
