Hello,
when I boot up, I get some alsactl error messages and other warnings due to - possibly - a change of config file syntax. I'd like to trouble-shoot those problems, but since they disappear so quickly it's impossible for me to do.
To which log are those warnings/error messages saved?
Thanks in advance
Moritz

try "dmesg" and see if they appear in that output.
else possibly in /var/log/kernel.log or /var/log/messages

Sure, but what will it help when they disappear after I barely noticed they are there?
[h@k ~]$ dmesg | grep alsa
[h@k ~]$ sudo cat /var/log/kernel.log | grep alsa
[h@k ~]$ sudo cat /var/log/messages.log | grep alsa
