Sound issues

I have a weird problem. Whenever I mute the sound on my laptop, a few mins later it just comes right back on full blast. Searched all over the place but chouldn't find an answer anywhere.

Also on a side note. I have 6910p HP laptop which have some touch sensitive keys at the top, they all work except the volume slider, the lights come on when touched but they have no effect.

Could use some help here people.

How exactly do you mute the sound? Does it come back at random or e.g. when you play a particular game or use some video player? That app may set volume to 100% by default.
