KDE intel graphic and new intel driver (2.13)

All my problems with bad kwin effects in KDE 4.5.3 (4.5.2 & 4.5.1 also) are past with new intel driver xf86-video-intel 2.13 on all distros (Kubuntu for example), but I just wonna know if that's possible, when will new driver (now is in testing repo) hit extra repo?

Thanks

Re: KDE intel graphic and new intel driver (2.13)

There's an "xf86-video-intel-newest" package on AUR, thanks to yaourt it says:

aur/xf86-video-intel-newest 2.13.0-1 (304)
    X.org Intel i810/i830/i915/945G/G965+ video drivers!

Try that one and if it works for u tell me to try it myself on my Intel 945GM (it appears that the old Driver just HATE KDE 4.5 xD).

Bye and sorry for my poor english.

I understand your english, so it's not poor! wink

I know about that package in AUR, but i have no good expiriance with intel drivers (exactly with that -newest) from AUR so I forgot about them...I'll try and give a chance to that driver...

Thanks for your reply.

Re: KDE intel graphic and new intel driver (2.13)

I can confirm that "xf86-video-intel-newest" from AUR works better than the version in extra. However, direct rendering (with OpenGL) is still messed up, so I'm going to continue forcing indirect rendering (in etc/profile (as detailed on the Arch wiki page on KDE)). Also blur won't work with indirect rendering still (maybe it's not supposed to?).

Re: KDE intel graphic and new intel driver (2.13)

As i recall from Fedora 14 Direct Rendering is necessary for "blur effect" =S

I can't even activate the KWIN effects neither in Fedora or Arch, the DE freezes and i have to force shutdown ... so i'm just waiting for a "KDE upgrade" (KDE 4.6) to solve this issue (i hope, really really hope).

Meanwhile i'm using GNOME and i really HATE IT !!! (don't know why but i just hate it smile)

Greeds, and again sorry for my english.

Re: KDE intel graphic and new intel driver (2.13)

Yes, with indirect rendering and driver 2.13, Kwin works better, and if you do not need blur, this is very good solution. For example, there's no "hiccup" with minimize effect, and everything is smoother...

I do not know does indirect rendering affects any other applications, games, but I have not noticed any drop performance in KDE...

Re: KDE intel graphic and new intel driver (2.13)

I'm using the following packages from testing:  intel-dri (7.9-1), libdrm (2.4.22-1), libgl (7.9-1), mesa (7.9-1), xf86-video-intel (2.13.0-4) with intel x4500. KDE4.5 performance and stability issues are all gone smile Anyway imho picking some packages from testing should be safer and easier than using packages from AUR or some external repo.

Maybe, but I do not like to use testing repo, because is testing! wink That's my opinion...

Well ... we just have to wait until it falls to [EXTRA].

I dont like either to use packages from the [TESTING] repo but anyway ... KDE 4.5 was a big dissapointment for my Intel Graphics.

Blessings ! and again sorry for my english.

Re: KDE intel graphic and new intel driver (2.13)

I wonder if KDE had anything to do with this new version of the driver. If KDE is pushing development in other areas of the Linux software universe that would be pretty cool.

if you're interested in what one of the KDE devs had to say on this matter, u can visit this link:

hopefully that can answer your question.
