nvidia-96xx no longer support by Xorg -- what good is it?

A naive question perhaps.  I noticed that [testing] just got nvidia-96xx 96.43.18-2 and am wondering what good this package is given that xorg1.8 doesn't support it.  <--- honest question, not meant to troll.

Are you sure that they do not support it now?  That post was 4 months ago...

I'm not sure... I don't have an older card anymore.  Perhaps someone with one will ring in.

Development of 173xx and 96xx is behind the regular nvidia drivers, but those drivers are not abandoned, so they should get the current xorg support one day.
IIRC they both support xorg 1.8 atm.

173xx supports xorg 1.9 already and AaronP promised that he will add 1.9 support to 96xx. Right now i think 96xx works only with IgnoreABI

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
