Two problems with setting up arch. Keyboard layout and wifi card.

Hi guys.

I have installed arch on my old laptop (LG le express) and I have two problems.

1. I wasn't able to create a Hebrew keyboard layout.
2. I don't know how to install my wifi card. (Ralink 2500).

as for one, I changed my xorg.conf to this:

section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Keyboard0"
        Driver "kbd"
        Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
        Option "Xkbmodel" "pc105"
        Option "XkbLayout" "us,il"
        Option "KkbOption" "grep:switch,grp:alt_shift_toggel,grp_led:caps"
EndSection

but it didn't work.

As for 2, I have found this:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Us … eta_driver

But I can't find how to install rt2x00

Thanks

Regarding problem 2, you don't need to install those drivers. They are already present as kernel modules. Check out if your card is listed in lspci or lsusb and just add the relevant module (rt2500pci or rt2500usb) in the MODULES array of /etc/rc.conf.

http://www.linux.com/learn/docs/ldp/540-Hebrew-HOWTO  has a complete guide on how to deal with having Hebrew running on Linux.

The Arch wiki has an Hebrew page http://archlinux.org.il/
(Can't read it, so don't know whether youu'll find what you want there)

Re: Two problems with setting up arch. Keyboard layout and wifi card.

As for the wifi.

I encountered another problem.
My network is encrypted with LEAP using username and password (it is the university network actually) how do I use it with arch? specifically, how do I put the user name and password through the terminal.

As for the Hebrew part.
The Hebrew wiki of arch offer nothing in that field. It only has the local definitions. From what I understood, the guide placed there is only for setting up fonts in different environment and applications. Can any of you tell me if the line I added for the keyboard layout switching is correct? this is what important.

Thanks

Re: Two problems with setting up arch. Keyboard layout and wifi card.

To be able to write in Hebrew is more difficult than with other  languages, as you have to find the Hebrew fonts you need, install them, map the keyboard for Hebrew usage, find a way to switch between various languages, enable X-applications and console to use these fonts and the inverted right-to-left writing, and a lot more....

Thanks.

I have the font and there is a standard solution as many distro's have implanted this solution. I only can't find the right solution.

I don't think that your xkboptions line is correct. For one it is called "xkboptions", and I'm not sure about the syntax either. I am just going off the xorg wiki, as I don't do this myself. One more note, using an "InputDevice" section is deprecated over hot plugging. Another option instead of using caps to toggle is with setxkbmap.

Are you using Gnome or Xfce, by chance? Because they've got Keyboard Indicator Applets, that are quite handy to use.

Glad to hear that it is solved. Don't forget to mark the thread as such.

I still have the problem with the encrypted wifi. Should I open another thread for that?

Also, where do I marked the thread as solved?

Re: Two problems with setting up arch. Keyboard layout and wifi card.

If you edit the first post you can change the title, prepend it with [solved] (once all issues are actually solved). Also if you can post your working solution then it will be useful for others having similar difficulties. Please read the following links.

As for your wireless issue, which tool are you using? A quick google around seems to suggest that netcfg in combination with wpa supplicant can connect to LEAP encrypted networks, eg this thread. Are you also aware that there are graphical tools to do this for you that you may find easier, such as wicd?
