Hi all.
New arch user. Installed using method "install from existing GNU/linux os." Thanks to the wiki team for great documentation. Still working mostly chrooted from Ubuntu. Do have a working network, openbox, and nautilus.

Been jumping from distro to distro for the past 4 years, usually dual booting with WinXp on my Toshiba Satellite. Finally decided to dedicate the whole drive to Linux. Arch Linux that is. Feels pretty good to cut the MS cord. Still finding my way around manually configuring everything the Arch Way. Can be intimidating at times, but so far I've managed to get everything working. Not sure why I don't see the Arch Linux logo during boot up. Next step will see if I can configure openbox. Looks like a lot of work.

Hello everyone!
I'm from Sweden and I'm unemployed for now. Thought I should do something useful with my time and learn about Linux.
I want to have better control over my computer and realized that open software is the way to go. Apparently there is a step learning curve I need to get past.
I have just installed Arch. Before I used Mint for a while.

Hello All!
I have been using Arch now for about a month on my main machine and I now have a computer that runs EXACTLY as I want. This is a first. I am a Computer Science student and my last OS was Ubuntu. I loved Ubuntu and the main reason I switched was because I wanted to get back to using stock Gnome. Oddly while switching to Arch I have completely dropped Gnome and am now using i3. Anyways I am now happy Arching!

Hi all!
I am a Swede living in Belgium who spends waaay too much time playing with his computer - an incurable distro hopper and "mess with stuff until it gets broken" kind of person.
Just re-started with Arch again (in paralell with a 32-bit Aptosid, have to have a 32-bit debian based system around for work and banking etc). The reason this time to move over to 64-bit Arch as a "playground" partition (which hopefully will keep my production system less "tampered" with...) is that I got inspired to explore the possibility to replace various GNU parts in the system with alternative things (hint: W.F. Cody is a historical character better known by his alias...).
The recent progress that LLVM/Clang can compile Linux is one of the first things I am going to play with as an alternative toolchain for the entire system... After that I might start playing with various alternative system changes to give alternatives to GNU, for example is there an init system based on plan9port mk and rc that can be interesting to investigate... Documentation might end up on the Wiki or somewhere else.
It was basically either Arch/Gentoo or LFS and I do not have patience enough for Gentoo/LFS...
My AUR packages
Any package of mine is up for grabs. If you think you could mantain it better - just contact me!

Like everyone before, I would like to say "Hello".
I must admit, that Arch is distribution that fits me the best. During few months (maybe even more than a year) break, while using Fedora/Ubuntu, I had come to the point where I saw I was missing Arch (especially it's speed). Now I'm happy to be back (to life? . Greeting from Poland to all Arch-friends.
See you on IRC channel again.

Hello. I just picked up Arch again after sticking around Ubuntu for around half a year. Much easier to handle. I look forward to learning, and eventually being able to give back to the community.

I love the fact that I, not only an Arch newbie, but also a linux newbie, have been learning/using Arch for ~2 weeks without the need to post a single question on this forum, thanks to the excellent wiki and the forum itself. I know that was a horribly structured sentence I just laid down, but it feels so good to know I'm done distro-hopping. It's not easy to learn all the manual config stuff, but for the first time, it actually makes sense. I just want to say "thanks" and "hi".

Hello everyone here. I have just registered and I am happy to post for the firs time on this great forum.
I am using Arch Linux for about 1.5 years, but don' know why decided to register too late.
In fact my interest in Linux began with Arch and the freedom which it gives to you to bring your metal in something useful, not only for personal use on a desktop machine, but to put it in use in a serious and professional environments.
Last, I want to say a BIG THANKS to the whole team and people working on Arch Linux, its documentation and Wiki as well. I will try to share my experience and contribute to the forum despite I am not an expert.
Thanks.

I registered here to applaud you all for your fantastic documentation. I just installed Arch Linux for the first time on an old laptop of mine. Thanks to this forum, I did not need to bother you all with my questions. The answers were already here!!!
So. Thanks for a great lean distro, that has taught me a lot about the OS I love; GNU/Linux. And, again, thank you for such great documentation. I truly appreciate the work behind it all.
I might pester you with "newbie" questions later on. But for now, this is all I wanted to say.
Again, thank you, all of you.
Best regards,

Hello.
I am a new ArchLinux user. I have a typical technical background: I am a 3rd year student in Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia, with a strong interest in computer systems and programming languages. Before using ArchLinux I used Ubuntu for about half a year. I made the switch to Ubuntu because I was extremely uncomfortable with the degree of information hiding and the lack of system control that Windows imposes on the user. I made the switch from Ubuntu to ArchLinux because my proficiency as a Linux user improved quite quickly, and I was curious enough to want a fully customizable system that I could understand in and out.
So far I am liking my ArchLinux system very much. The documentation in particular is phenomenal, although there are a few gaps: for instance, the installation directions do not clearly state when the system should be rebooted (I have gotten into the habit of rebooting the system every time I make a change to a config-type file. This policy makes it much easier to "fix" problems.) and when it doesn't need to be rebooted. I have an xfce4-thunar-chromium build.
This is the second day for me, but I have learned an enormous amount and have changed the way I go about doing things on a computer. I hope to eventually become a contributing member.

Hey all,
Lots of ubuntu use when I first switched over from proprietary world. I'm not delving into arch as I've been seeking more a more personalized experience (matching with my needs). Looking forward to it.

I am a long time Debian Sid Desktop User and have decided to give Arch a try as it seems to be simpler to deal with and easier to keep up with any changes/bugs in upgraded packages, thanks to how everything with Arch appears far more centralized than Debian. Debian Sid can be such a fast moving target that it can make simply using it as a Desktop OS a little tricky at times and I felt I was wasting to much time trying to search for solutions to bugs or using 3rd party apt repositories etc.
I am hoping Arch will provide a bit more simplicity and stablility so I can just concentrate on actually using my Desktop rather than researching issues to problems all the time.
I actually use the Arch Wiki alot for setup and config settings for Debian so it also seemed logical to just make the switch. The Wiki is by far the best Documentation I have found for any Linux Distribution and the forums seem polite and friendly
Look forward to becoming more involved with the Project!
James

Hi everyone. Just registered.
I'm using arch for pretty long time now. I hope i can be useful here.
And, ofcourse, maybe you'll help me to solve some technical problems.
Glad to be here.

Well I suppose I best add my name to this rather large list.
Hello Everyone
Nice to see such a list on the forum of such an inspired Distro.
I'm a Systems Admin for a large scale Windows environment and develop C# base applications / web applications.
I've always liked and toyed with Linux. Normally the Ubuntu range as they are quick and easy.
Kept seeing Arch pop up, looked into it a couple of times but never installed.
Got a cover disc from Linux Format that has Arch on and thought "what the hell".
A LOT easier to install than expected due to the Wiki. I've had no issues and only had to scratch my head once or twice.
I now have my systems set up EXACTLY how I want them. My laptop is working better than with any other distro simply because I've put on only what I want and set up the way I want (again with the help of the Wiki). I don't think I've had to use another resource other than the Arch site.
A very well done to the developers and a big thank you. No wonder Arch is in the top 10 of DistroWatch!!

Hey all,
I've actually been using Arch for about 2.5 years now; before that I dabbled in Ubuntu, Fedora and Gentoo for a while before I settled upon Arch. When I installed Arch for the first time, it just seemed to click with me and I've stuck with it ever since. I finally switched to Arch (and Linux in general) full time about a year and a half ago, from a pure MS environment, and I haven't regretted it. Of course I still use Windows in a dual boot environment for gaming purposes (it isn't perfect, but what can you do?).
I hadn't jumped on the community bandwagon previously, but I plan on doing so in the future, and from what I've experienced, this is one of the (if not THE) best communities I've seen. Thanks to all of you who make this such a great distro to use and be a part of!

hey all
I've always been a windows guy but I had been using ubuntu a lot at the PC repair shop where I work and noticed how linux is much simpler then windows and you can do some things much more efficiently.
So I decided to dive in head first and installed arch on my main PC and I'm learning new stuff every minute of using it, it's awesome.
Love the community too. You guys are awesome.
PS. Sorry for flooding the forums with noob questions :Ð

Hello everyone,
Previous to my enlightenment, I used Ubuntu.
I decided to switch to Archlinux because of its do it yourself approach.

Heyy Archies,
New user from the Netherlands, Europe here looking forward to transforming into a "supar leet hackor" and figuring out how to build up my won system with you guys and gals.
I've been using Ubuntu with a lot of joy, but as my usage matures I feel more and more compelled to take charge of my system and build it in a way that suits what I want for my little travel netbook.
So cheers,
Matsjo
