udev hangs on "loading udev events"

Hi, just installed arch two days ago again, and I am having a huge slow down problem when booting, it takes ~15 seconds for "loading udev events".

I've tried downgrading udev, and looked at the wiki and tried various solutions found in google and nothing worked.

I also noticed some strange messages in dmesg

I'll put my rc.conf and some of what I say in dmesg, if you guys notice anything (including any possible problems I havent noticed) let me know...

First is dmesg

Re: udev hangs on "loading udev events"

That's weird.  dmesg shows that two versions of udev are being started on my computer as well:

$ dmesg | grep udev
udev[38]: starting version 162
udev[887]: starting version 163

I only have version 163 installed (or so I thought).

Anybody know why this is happening?

Edit to add:

$ ps -ef | grep -E '(\b38\b|\b887\b)'
root       887     1  0 Oct20 ?        00:00:00 /sbin/udevd --daemon
root     32102   887  0 Oct21 ?        00:00:00 /sbin/udevd --daemon
root     32103   887  0 Oct21 ?        00:00:00 /sbin/udevd --daemon

No process number 38 in the listing.

Mine is exactly like yours.  Not sure what's up with it, though.

sorry about posting big chunks of logs, I'll be sure to format it correctly next time.

But yeah, I do wonder why I have two version of udev showing up...

Re: udev hangs on "loading udev events"

The explanation for the two udev messages are:

In the initcpio, udev is started to create some devices (allows you to use UUID/LABEL and so on), and is then killed before controll is passed over to init on the system itself. There rc.sysinit starts udev again, and this time keeps it running.

Re: udev hangs on "loading udev events"

perhaps im just worrying about my boot time to much, it takes 28 seconds to boot into terminal, and around 50 seconds total til my desktop is fully loaded, does that seem about average for an intel i5 dual core @ 2.26GHz and 4GB RAM?

Re: udev hangs on "loading udev events"

Heyho

I've got the same thing since today! dmesg | grep udev give me the same exactly output as trc's sad Anyone knows how to fix that?

@trc Yesterday I needed about 15Secondes to boot into awesome, now its about 45Seconds;) I've got a Dual core and 4gb RAM also! I think it is a huge issue -.-"

I hope there will be a fix posted soon smile

EDIT: Just now while rebooting, the pc didn't started udev twice ...weird

Re: udev hangs on "loading udev events"

hey guys, after I reinstalled and went with xfce everything was working fine, and then this udev problem happened again but I discovered what was behind it... the problem is that the option I add to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (which causes the udev slowdown) is necessary for my HDMI output sound to work.

Before: http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/8521/bootchart.png = no udev hang, but no hdmi sound sad

I create and put the following into /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 probe_mask=0xffff,0xfff2
