Guitar Pro ported to Linux

As you may (not) know, Guitar Pro has been ported to Linux and it's also available for download (win/mac/linux)

the deb package scared me a little bit but i'm sure that it's possible to get it running under arch :>

Nice, I used to use Guitar Pro when I was on windows. Tuxguitar is good, but I still prefer Guitar Pro.

I'm not to bother about the deb (still, tar would of been better), but it's only 32bit.

I'm going to try and get this to run in my 32bit chroot. Shouldn't be to hard.

Holy crap, this is awesome news!

No more Wine for creating tablature

Oh and btw, just turn it into a tarball (deb2targz). Even if you can't, just unpack and unpack until you're given some files (remember, distro packages are some sort of archives also). Can't wait to see whether the trial works.

They're probably using Qt now, and so could afford a Linux port (wild-guess-just-for-fun).

Guitar Pro is a cool piece of software judging by GP6 demo there are huge leaps of improvement in this new version. The RSE engine is sensational, not having playback problems anymore, with much better sound and the ability to add effects and stuff. Plus it's ported to linux using Qt and the portaudio library!

Guitar Pro is one of the few reasons I still use commercial software.

Did anyone have any luck getting it to install? I tried installing it via deg2targz, but I am pretty inept.  Is it possible to get this working under (64-bit) Arch?

I tried to use deb2targz with the file GuitarPro6Demo-rev8217.deb downloaded from the official guitar pro web site. The only thing I got was the error message: "Out of memory!", appearing after a while. That's probably because of the big file size (369 MB). Does anybody know how to overcome this obstacle? Thanks.

SOLVED with AUR PKGBUILD at http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36390, modifying the name of the file to GuitarPro6Demo.deb and correcting the md5sums in the PKGBUILD. After installing, in order to get it working, I deleted the file libz.so.1 in /opt/GuitarPro6, so that it had to use system library I think, otherwise some version error about zlib arose. Finally GP on Linux!!!

I got Guitar Pro also working except...
I have no sound!

I removed their zlib and installed portaudio and pulseaudio but still no luck.
Have you've done anything else ?

When I start the demo as root from a console I can see the following logging:

[root@myhost GuitarPro6]# ./GuitarPro
Please make sure you're running a composition manager!
Found ARGB visual. Starting app...

Assuming that the audio of other applications works fine, just for curiosity try pavucontrol, a volume control tool for the PulseAudio sound server.
I can see GuitarPro app and control its volume.
# pacman -S pavucontrol
$ pulseaudio --start
$ pavucontrol
then go to GP6 dir, run it, and check the playback tab of pavucontrol.
