Chakra remorse. Possible to -Syu to Arch?

Chakra's repositories are missing too many packages for my liking and I'm hoping it's possible to switch to Arch's repos and upgrade. I've already updated mirrorlist and pacman.conf, but the output of -Syu worried me so I thought I'd ask before continuing.

1. I elected not to upgrade pacman from Arch before doing the upgrade.

2. There are several warnings like this:
warning: dbus-glib: local (0.88-1) is newer than extra (0.86-1)
warning: grub: local (0.97-17.1) is newer than core (0.97-17)
warning: initscripts: local (2010.07-1.1) is newer than core (2010.07-1)
warning: libgpod: local (0.7.94-1) is newer than extra (0.7.93-1)

But nothing that worries me too much. I'll just take the downgrade.

3. Tons of these messages:
:: Replace iwlwifi-1000-ucode with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n]
:: Replace iwlwifi-3945-ucode with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n]
:: Replace iwlwifi-4965-ucode with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n]
:: Replace iwlwifi-5000-ucode with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n]
:: Replace iwlwifi-5150-ucode with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n]
:: Replace kde-common with extra/kdebase-workspace? [Y/n]
:: Replace kdebase with extra/kde-meta-kdebase? [Y/n]
:: Replace kernel26-firmware with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n]
:: Replace libelf with core/elfutils? [Y/n]
:: Replace libv4l with extra/v4l-utils? [Y/n]
:: Replace pkgconfig with core/pkg-config? [Y/n]
:: Replace rt2x00-rt61-fw with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n]
:: Replace rt2x00-rt71w-fw with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n]

Again, I am not overly worried, although there are a couple there that might cause problems if the replacement is wrong in some way.

4. Errors with the kernel version are so far stopping me.
:: broadcom-wl: requires kernel26<2.6.34
:: ndiswrapper: requires kernel26<2.6.34
:: tiacx: requires kernel26<2.6.34
:: vhba-module: requires kernel26<2.6.34

Current kernel is 2.6.33-CHAKRA and I'm not certain how to resolve this. I want to run "pacman -S kernel26", but doing so gives me this:

:: linux-firmware and kernel26-firmware are in conflict. Remove kernel26-firmware? [y/N] y
:: linux-firmware and iwlwifi-1000-ucode are in conflict. Remove iwlwifi-1000-ucode? [y/N] y

:: linux-firmware and rt2x00-rt71w-fw are in conflict. Remove rt2x00-rt71w-fw? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: acerhk: requires kernel26<2.6.35

:: broadcom-wl: requires kernel26<2.6.34
:: madwifi: requires kernel26<2.6.34
:: ndiswrapper: requires kernel26<2.6.34
:: nvidia-173xx: requires kernel26<2.6.34
:: tiacx: requires kernel26<2.6.34
:: vhba-module: requires kernel26<2.6.34

Can I just uninstall those packages listed after the error message? I don't use wifi and can reinstall the nvidia driver.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you do that you will end up with a mix of Chakra and Arch packages on your system.   So your system will be neither Chakra or Arch and likely to have issues.   Installing Arch fresh is the way to go.

Also be sure to read the beginner's guide and official Arch install guide, both provided in the wiki. Chakra targets a different public than Arch.

If you examine your packages correctly, and do the right actions, that change wouldn't be such a hussle.

The conflicting packages listed above are all external kernel modules. You can complete the upgrade by removing them, running -Syu again, and then reinstalling them (although I doubt you need them all tbh e.g. you have FOUR wifi drivers there yikes ).

That's just to address the specific errors you posted - the best advice is to reinstall, as already recommended.

Finally, I'd suggest you put a bit more thought into your new installation, so you don't end up with packages you don't need, as above.

I thought Chakra just dumped all of it in. I doubt he chose to have those packages.

So yes, to the OP, read the Beginner's Guide and welcome to the REAL Arch smile

Re: Chakra remorse. Possible to -Syu to Arch?

Thanks for the replies. I've got an Arch install CD here, but I'm going to try the upgrade to see what happens.

I'm actually a long-time Arch user and originally used Chakra when it was still using Arch's repositories and was actually just a quick way to get Arch installed. I hadn't realized that Chakra is now something else entirely.

Re: Chakra remorse. Possible to -Syu to Arch?

Right now, if you're using Arch+kDEmod there's a possible way to switch to Arch completelly, switch to Chakra it's more complex and it's recommended a complete new install, wich take 10 minutes.

You decided to stay with Arch, then let's do it safe:

1. First remove all the KDEmod repos, from your /etc/pacman,conf and add all the Arch ones
2- Get the Arch KDE packages to your cache   sudo pacman -Syw kde
3- Remove KDEmod   sudo pacman -Rd kdemod
4- Install Arch's KDE   sudo pacman -S kde

If you want to be sure there's no more KDEmod packages installed, just do pacman -Qs kdemod. and remove all those ones.
Make sure also you replace any KDEmod-extragear package with his Arch's extra version.
