I'm reintroducing myself to arch with this new install on my laptop, but I suck at it, and can't get my sound to work.
I am in the audio group. I run alsamixer and all the levels are good. I'm using all the latest packages on the 64bit version of arch.

When I installed Arch 64bit on my thinkpad recently the speakers and headphones were muted by default and i didn't spot it immediately.

Thanks for your help. I look in alsamixer and all the channels are open. Should I be checking some where else as well?

I wish that I knew how to troubleshoot the sound system better, but I can't figure out where the problem is at this point.

The solution was to press the hardware button to turn up the volume, even though I had all the software channels turned up.
