Logging boot message

On a couple of my Arch machines, I'm getting some odd errors at boot time and I'm trying to figure out how to log them. They don't show up in the dmesg output, as I believe they are coming from programs started via the rc.conf file, or perhaps modules in mkinitcpio.conf. Is there anyway I can capture the output to make debugging the problem easier?

Philosophy is looking for a black cat in a dark room. Metaphysics is looking for a black cat in a dark room that isn't there. Religion is looking for a black cat in a dark room that isn't there and shouting "I found it!". Science is looking for a black cat in a dark room with a flashlight.
