[Solved] E17 installation with easy_e17 script

Can anyone please help me with more details on the topic? Arch E17 wiki is quite sparse and I tried to follow everything, but easy_e17 was complaining that svn is not installed. What is that? There is no menioning of that in the wiki. I donwloaded script from the original website (specified in AUR). Had to rename to .sh as the extension was .download somehow. Then it threw this error about svn

It would have taken you less time to figure out what svn means with a search engine that it did to type your post.

Re: [Solved] E17 installation with easy_e17 script

Hmm, thank you very much for your most pleasant help with answering my question. I think it would have taken you even less time to NOT answer me than writing your "helpful" post in this way.

svn can be known as subversion, it is a version control system after cvs.
It doesn't say in arch e17 wiki to
svn checkout svn://omicron.homeip.net/enlightenment
There are clear 4 steps and if that is an obvious requirement I assume they would put it onto the wiki, no? Or am I just naive?

Again thank you so very much.

Alright, I will figure it out myself, I am just going to mark it as solved.

They? It's a wiki, fix it yourself.

I was referring to archwiki. I don't think it is opened for editing same as wikipedia, no?

Re: [Solved] E17 installation with easy_e17 script

ah never mind. Subversion is stated as a dependecy in AUR So, it will be redundant to say again about dependencies in Arch wiki for E17. They already do at the bottom..

Of course it is - that's the whole point of a wiki.

I see, you have to be logged in to edit. Not like in wikipedia where they just take your IP number. Interesting, but probably better for avoiding spam etc.

utsuwa,

I wasn't trying to be rude, I just wanted to nudge you in a more self sufficient direction. No one answered your question, so you decided to do it on your own. You not only figured out that svn is subversion, but you also found out that the AUR is an invaluable place to find information. You added two powerful tools to your toolkit and became much more skilled at Linux in a 24 hour period.

Welcome to the forums by the way. I'll bet that you'll do quite well with Arch.

Re: [Solved] E17 installation with easy_e17 script

Skottish,

yeah I guess I snapped too. Sorry. I actually do all my research through googling and find it invaluable for troubleshooting stuff with my distros. However, I was just overwhelmed with information from Arch. It is very very different (well I guess there are some similarities in philosophy with Gentoo) and I was lost, couldn't see whether to start googling or ask Arch pros. Thought maybe the latter was faster. In terms of learning I have to admit that I learned with Arch (two weeks) more than I learned with other distros  (that is years) . You see, they hide stuff from you and you have to become linux-archaeologist to uncover its bones  and skeleton. Arch is inux-ARCHaeology done right. Its all there in front of you. I like it, unfortunately for my current situation (e17 spin) it is not that great. Kind of too unstable. Not the fault of Arch, but probably my system issues.I will use it for other DEs but for e17 I will  look at alternatives.

sand_man,

ahh,...what can I say...

Re: [Solved] E17 installation with easy_e17 script

By the way FarmerF, if you can come to my rescue maybe you can tell me if it is really ok to run easy_e17.sh and ignore errors. I googled and some people just put an option to ignore them and just continue. Because this script is complaining about strange stuff. Sometimes its cpp, sometimes some _X11 or something.

Re: [Solved] E17 installation with easy_e17 script

It is possible to ignore errors, but in the end I never got a good result when doing this. If its in a module you do not need you can ignore it but often some other thing will depend on it and then the whole thing won't work. The most likely is that you are missing dependencies which cause the build to fail. Check you have at least these:

pacman -S cvs freetype2 imlib2 libjpeg libpng libxml2 subversion

You will need some other deps that are not well documented so best bet is to google around with the error and see what is missing (disable continue on error else you wont have much output to post). If you have one specific error then paste its output here and I will try to check this post once every few days.

Also make sure you are using the --srcrev=52995 option. Else you get the most recent changes which often break everything.

As it turns out there is a newer stable source revision: 54513. You could also use that.

Re: [Solved] E17 installation with easy_e17 script

another hint:

easy_e17 uses some settings inside the script that you may want to edit. I removed the python bindings as these caused trouble and I do not plan on developing for e for the time being and I removed "shellementary elicit enjoy enki ephoto image-viewer drawer news mpdule" as these caused problems as well and took to long to find a fix for. Any thing that wont compile and is in one of the extras lines is something you could leave out and/or build later. My relevant part in the script is as follows:

efl_basic="eina eet evas ecore efreet eio eeze e_dbus embryo edje"
efl_extra="imlib2 emotion ethumb libeweather elementary enlil libast "
#python-evas python-ecore python-e_dbus python-edje python-ethumb python-emotion python-elementary shellementary
bin_basic="exchange e"
bin_extra="e_phys editje elsa emote empower  Eterm expedite exquisite eyelight  rage"
#elicit enjoy enki ephoto image-viewer
e_modules_bin="emprint exalt"
e_modules_extra="alarm calendar cpu deskshow diskio efm_nav efm_path efm_pathbar everything-mpris everything-pidgin everything-tracker everything-wallpaper everything-websearch eweather exalt-client exebuf execwatch itask itask-ng flame forecasts iiirk language mail mem moon net notification eooorg penguins photo places quickaccess rain screenshot skel slideshow snow taskbar tclock tiling uptime weather winlist-ng winselector wlan"
#drawer news mpdule

also change the packages= line to this to get a more complete e17:

packages=$packages_full # default

Things I have installed that might be dependencies:

attr autoconf automake bin86 binutils bison bzip2 coreutils doxygen fakeroot file flex gawk gcc gcc-libs gettext glibc grep libiptcdata libtool lua lvm2 lzo2 m4 make patch perl procps psmisc sed tar texinfo

Re: [Solved] E17 installation with easy_e17 script

Thank you for your help. I installed most of the same packages like you did (all the prerequisites too like cvs, libpng) Can you let me know if you installed things like qt, gtk, hal and dbus? Because I did as they were pulled by some of the other packages that I installed.

Yes I did, should not cause any trouble though.
