Multimedia keys on terminal

My computer has some multimedia keys (volume control etc.) that work fine on my Openbox setup. However I often use plain terminal without X. How can I get the multimedia keys working on the terminal independent of the application I have running there?

I think you have to map them in ~/.inputrc, you can also look into bindkey.
