[SOLVED] Running for loops in the 64 bit R-project barely working

Good afternoon all,

I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered a similar situation. For loops have always been a bit slow in R, but since moving from Ubuntu to Arch a few weeks ago I've found them to be nearly unusable.

I'm running 64 bit R on 64 bit Arch (Asus laptop, i3 processor, 4gb ram). The for loop in question covers only 4,500 rows of data and is an incredibly simple command. I've run this loop on Ubuntu, on this pc, and it took less than 30 seconds. On my Arch install the same loop takes greater than 10 minutes.

I'm hoping someone has run into this and fixed it. If not, and you're curious, I'm happy to provide whatever details may be helpful.

Thanks.

UPDATE:
I am a HUGE idiot and wouldn't blame the forum moderators for deleting this post.
Words fail me. I spent a few hours blaming the tech. I reinstalled various things, built R from source and tweaked my R user profile settings. Ultimately, as jt512 suspected below, it turns out I was writing bad code.

Long story short, old LaTex document, Sweave code was transposed incorrectly...
I hang my head in shame.

My apologies to the tech. I will never doubt again.
Until next time.
