I don't know what's the problem, I've read the whole wiki sound page, done it at least thirty times (not including variated attempts) and I still have no sound. I managed to have it for one season, but after reboot it didn't work anymore. I'll post some outputs and file contents.

Run groups to check the groups your current user is in.
If your user is logged in when you make the change, then you have to log out then in again, for the change to take effect.
Otherwise, show an error message - "it doesn't work" doesn't help ![]()

The answer's right there - your ~/.asoundrc is bad.

I've seen that, but I've copied ~/.asoundrc from /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf and changed just the three lines that are showed in the wiki to the card number I think I should change it to.

Funny, I've not heard of anyone doing that before. Anyway, don't do that. Check the ALSA and Arch wikis for how to set a particular soundcard as the default - it's a common question.

Okay.. Thanks for your help, but now it seems the problem is with the sound output itself. The onboard (nForce2) card is playing vibes just as it should, while Soundblaster (rev 0a) doesn't play at all. I don't know what's the problem..

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

I've changed too many things, I don't know what did it, but it works. Anyway, if someone searches (Google "sound problems arch" comes up second) it would be useful to give out some tips.
This section of the Arch wiki is very useful, go there. Also, put the module of the desired primary card to index 0 in modprobes.conf. Start from scratch, delete/reset all configs and go trough the wiki carefully. Best of luck.
