Hi,
Okay, maybe (just maybe) I'm panicing ... again. Yesyes...I am an EX crap-dows user, and do need to get used to Linux, nonetheless.
Annother file system check was forced, this time on /dev/sda1, that seems to be my boot partition:
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
proc 0 0 0 - /proc
sys 0 0 0 - /sys
udev 10240 196 10044 2% /dev
/dev/disk/by-uuid/f38d3d40-b25d-45a5-b21a-8cf371fb5a58
7566432 5655828 1526252 79% /
devpts 0 0 0 - /dev/pts
shm 769072 88 768984 1% /dev/shm
/dev/sda4 232433560 28259812 192366780 13% /home
/dev/sda1 101086 14129 81738 15% /boot
fusectl 0 0 0 - /sys/fs/fuse/connections
gvfs-fuse-daemon 0 0 0 - /home/User01/.gvfs
And it has 10% non-contiguous files...
TEN procent!
Do I need to "wet myself" or is that okay...
If not, I may need to do some maintenance, hence this post: how do I enter maint mode? If needed?

there is no mantenance mode and everything is ok. 10% non-contiguous files is absolutely normal, i have 12%. you will see that number increase and decrease constantly, there is no need to panic.
chances are that the check was forced because you exeded the number of mounts on that partition without checking it. i think a check is forced after you mount a partition 20 times, although that number can of course be modified. for further details, you should read the wiki.
best of lucks with your linux experience

Hi canolucas,
Oooooooookay then. And indeed, a check is forced every then-some times.
No need to panic and time to fully trust Linux.
Tnx and wellness to you!

How often the filesystem check is made is set by tune2fs (at least for ext2/3/4).
Your / is 79% full, so you might want to keep an eye on it.

Hi karol,
The "full" one is put under "surveillance" and I do clean up the disk at times. The / has been set according to the defaults...no way to change that now, but...I dont need any more stuff installed, so, that's pretty much ok...
Tnx

Sure you can change it, just back up your stuff in case sth goes wrong. You can take some free space from your /home if you want and resize your / partition.
