From time to time, I have been getting a corrupted display.
This can be seen in the below link:

I am running the latest version of kde, and nvidia's display driver, with desktop effects turned on.
Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Nvidia Geforce 8000 maybe?
Sorry, forgot to mention that.
It is a 9300M
I take it from your guess that is a known issue? I checked Google but didn't find anything relevant.

When does this happens?
If it is after the screen going idle I've fount that doing
xset dpms force off
-or-
xset dpms force standby
_several times_ will eventually lead me to a good screen. I use an ATI card though.

Does this happen right after booting up or randomly under normal use? I ask because I've needed to power on my monitor(s) before the nvidia module has loaded for years. I use startx to go into X, so I see the corruption on TTY long before I get into it.

It happens (randomlly) after waking up the screen after the screensaver (euphoria) has been running.
I have kde set to start automatically on boot.
When it occurs, I can logout of X, the terminal is uncorrupted, but when I run startx, the screen is still corrupted.
Ill give:
xset dpms force off
-or-
xset dpms force standby
a go the next time it occurs.
