Re: install Nvidia drivers

which nvidia-96xx are you using?
I used the one from the testing repo
http://www.archlinux.org/packages/testi … idia-96xx/

and you have nouveau removed or blacklisted and no vga= parameter?
did you try making a new kernel26.img?

Re: install Nvidia drivers

after the installation i just updated the system using pacman. and it installed the kernel version 2.6

I'm using this  http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/i686/nvidia/

should i use the 96xx branch ? i thought i should be using the latest one's as it is also suggested on the nvidia website.

Re: install Nvidia drivers

You should use nvidia. Also can you post the content of your /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?

Re: install Nvidia drivers

The newest drivers work great on mine, I have a GTS 360m on my ASUS laptop, are you sure you have the most recent versions of all your software? NVIDIAs drivers are in the 260 series now, not 256.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log is updated each time you run X. It always provides useful debugging information. (Knowing that the bug isn't in X is useful)
Also it will tell us why nvidia isn't being loaded.

Re: install Nvidia drivers

I have the same issue.  I also have a Vaio F with a GeForce GT 330M.  I'd fallen a little behind on updates, and when I ran them yesterday X stopped working as described here.  I have never had nouveau installed, and I blacklisted the module as suggested.  I also removed my vga boot param.  I attempted to re-install xorg and nvidia, because I couldn't think of anything else to do.

The frustrating thing is that I can't even share my Xorg.0.log.  The log is created, but nothing is written to it.  When I execute startx I see the beginnings of a normal xorg log flash on the screen right before it goes black, but nothing makes it to the log file.

Here is my config:

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier     "Monitor0"
    VendorName     "Unknown"
    ModelName      "Unknown"
    HorizSync       28.0 - 33.0
    VertRefresh     43.0 - 72.0
    Option         "DPMS"
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier     "Device0"
    Driver         "nvidia"
    VendorName     "NVIDIA Corporation"
    Option         "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0"
    Option         "CustomEDID" "DFP-0: /proc/acpi/video/NGFX/LCD/EDID"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier     "Screen0"
    Device         "Device0"
    Monitor        "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth    24
    SubSection     "Display"
        Depth       24
    EndSubSection
EndSection
Section "Device"
        Identifier "Default nvidia Device"
        Driver "nvidia"
        Option "NoLogo" "True"
EndSection

Re: install Nvidia drivers

I downgraded nvidia, as suggested here, and everything is working again.  Hopefully the nvidia driver will be fixed soon.

Hi,

  I wanted to install nvidia drivers in archlinux, i get a blank screen after i install the drivers. I had arch linux isntalled 5 times between the past 2 days and i am stuck up here.

Right now i have nouveau and vesa drivers installed.

Please do let me know how to isntall Nvidia drivers and get the desktop running.

The 260.19.x series seems to be broken on Vaio laptops, causing a kernel oops and a blank screen!

I own a Vaio S series laptop, and I am stuck with the 256.53 driver (last one working for me). I suggest to give it a go and see if it solves your problems

Re: install Nvidia drivers

i solved on Sony VAIO VPCZ1 (vpcz11x9r) with Linux 5.6.14-arch1-1,
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT216M [GeForce GT 330M] (rev a2)

use this way:

1. install apacman

2. from apacman install opencl-nvidia-340xx, lib32-opencl-nvidia-340xx, nvman, bumblebee, primus

3. install  mesa, mesa-demos, xf86-video-intel, xf86-video-vesa

4. make systemd unit bumblebeed.service, contains:

[Unit]
Description=Bumblebee C Daemon

[Service]
Type=simple
CPUSchedulingPolicy=idle
ExecStart=/usr/bin/bumblebeed
Restart=always
RestartSec=60
StandardOutput=kmsg

[Install]
WantedBy=graphical.target

5. then enable and start unit

6. set nvman like this (use nvman --help first):

Optimus          : inactive (disabled)
Bumblebee        : active   (enabled)
NVIDIA GPU       : on
Default service  : bumblebee
Optimus mode     : intel
Optimus startup  : intel

7. (not sure, that is needed, but i have now: libva, libva1, lib32-libva1, xf86-video-nouveau-blacklist-git, egl-wayland, libvdpau, xf86-video-nouveau, nouveau-fw
