I'm running tmux with (*gasp*) gnome-terminal, but when tmux is running I can't scroll back in the buffer. Neither Shift + Pg Up/Dn nor mouse wheel scrolling work. If I detach tmux I am able to scroll back and forward through the buffer as expected. I have nothing special in my tmux.conf. Any ideas?

I highly suggest using Terminator. It does everything gnome-terminal can do, plus it is a tiling terminal which makes it like tmux. Only better, imho.

I can use Pg Up/Down after I have invoked the tmux control key (in my case Ctrl-t): but I am guessing you have tried that...

Put this in .tmux.conf
set -g terminal-overrides 'xterm*:smcup@:rmcup@'

Thanks guys, I'll try your suggestions after work. I'm hoping I can scroll back through the buffer without using the tmux control key (ala vanilla terminal style).

@yejun: I've been struggling with this issue in xterm for a long time. Thank you!
