To check /var/log
du -h /var/log/
To search for stuff over a specific size
find / -size +10GB -print

its definitely not in /var/log, its in /home/ which has its own partition
i've been going over directories for the last i don't know how long with du trying to sort through, i've found some clutter, but not the clutter i'm looking for

well, the only file i can find that i didn't put there, is this one
/home/urmom/.kdemod4/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data/virtuosobackend/soprano-virtuoso.db
but its only 2.4gb.....and after checking directory sizes in /home/ with du, its not adding up to the amount of space that df is reporting used.....i tihnk i'm going to run fsck and see what happens

Yeah, ncdu rocks. Run it as root to see all files.
