dbus-session [SOLVED]

Well, it looks like this is a very common problem, yet I have not been able to find a solution. I cannot open graphical apps as root. I get this message, for example, when I try to run dolphin after doing "su -" and giving my root password:

<unknown program name>(9637)/: KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server:  "/usr/bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error: No protocol specified
No protocol specified
Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.
"

<unknown program name>(9630)/: KUniqueApplication: Pipe closed unexpectedly.

I had been able to use dolphin like this before, so I guess that at some point, I must have changed some important configuration. Since I had been able to do this before, I think there should be a way to fix it, so "use kdesu dolphin" is not an option. I don't want to use kdesu. I just want to become root in a terminal and work from there when I need to do something as root. Besides, doing "kdesu dolphin" is just as fruitless, since I get this: dolphin opens, but with a message at the bottom of the window saying:

"no se pudo iniciar el proceso. No se puede dialogar con klauncher"
That is, in english: "Process could not be started. Not possible to talk to klauncher" (or at least that is an aproximate translation). Following that message, it says (in english): "The name org.kde.klauncher was not provided by any .service files"

kdesu dbus-launch dolphin is fruitless too. It opens dolphin correctly, but I cannot acces any file, since I get this error when trying:

"KDEinit no pudo lanzar xxx" (that is, in english: "KDEinit could not launch xxx"), where xxx is the apropiate program to open the file.

After some google research, I find this is very common, but I have not found any useful solution. Hope somebody can lend me a hand.

Thanks in advance

Ralph.--

I don't know if these two old threads are still relevant with actual system and KDE environment.
But as I don't use dolphin anymore as file manager (I use midnight commander in Konsole), I cannot give you more infos about that.
You can try several ideas in these threads and see if they work for you.

Re: dbus-session [SOLVED]

Hi guys. Thanks for your answers. I spent some time searching with several combinations of words in the forum and didn't come across those results.
I didn't even know about the xhost command, so I'm still checking its man page, but yes, xhost + seems to solve the problem.
Thank you very much!!
