[SOLVED]How do I start DWM

I just installed DWM and I am having trouble starting it. I used the instructions on the wiki and nothing seems to work. I'm sure it's because I'm not following the instructions correctly, so I'll post the commands I've run and what they output.

~/.xinitrc exec dwm                     Permission Denied
sudo ~/.xinitrc exec dwm             command not found
~/.xinitrc                                   Permission Denied
sudo ~/.xinitrc                              command not found
dwm                                            cannot open display
sudo dwm                                     cannot open display.

what am I supposed to run in order to get it to work? (I'm running these from the terminal after I first login. I am not in an X server or a DE)

Re: [SOLVED]How do I start DWM

You'll have to edit your .xinitrc directly with a text editor(vim, nano, etc) and add dwm to the bottom of your startup commands.  After that you can use the command startx to  launch into X and dwm.
