It's good to know that the persons living in Greece that are using ArchLinux are not so many. I like it [elite, hahaha]
Just for you to know, I 've chatted with Manos who used to be a main packager if you see the PKGBUILDs

I also know a friend that I convert him to use ArchLinux
and that's all, it's fun to say to people: "I use Arch" and they say: "What is this?" Ark?

Yeah, I've noticed the name of Manos inside many packages. I'm glad to see that an important person inside Arch is greek.

He would be the fourth in Greece to use Arch, and we would be less and less elite.

Well, I used to use slackware on my desktop pc.
For once, pacman ROCKS!! ;-)

The installation gives less hints than slack though, but I managed it .

A problem I have now is that I can't get Greek to work in xfterm4 & xterm.
They hang if I start them with the -lc parameter.
I do have Greek in rxvt using the font setting, but I don't have ( tonous ) and its very frustrating.
Any ideas ?

put in /etc/profile

export LC_IDENTIFICATION=POSIX

make sure you generate the grUTF8 locale cause it's missing
(hint: use localedef) {google it or search in the forums here}

then in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
Option "XkbModel" "pc104"
Option "XkbLayout" "us,el"
Option "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle"
Option "XkbVariant" ",extended"

then use terminal (pacman -S terminal in XFCE4) and you're done

I have a non-unicode encoding (ie plain el_GR), and I've set xorg.conf correctly everywhere, but the terminals. I even write proper greek in rxvt, χωρίς τόνους όμως!

Thats the problem.

OK, that last one sounded a little harsh, I suppose.
I should apologise.

Knowing that xterm operates in utf8 internally, do you think that missing the grUTF8 locale may be the problem ?

I'll investigate today anyway, but a second opinion might prove useful.

EDIT: OK, that was the problem; generating the UTF-8 locale made xterm -lc work perfectly. Now I have to set some default settings for xterm but that will be easier, I suppose

As you might (not) know [:P], the hard disk I had arch installed went dead(due to a faulty power supply, it seems).

Anyway, I have a new disk now, my exams are over, so I'll give arch another go.

I use Arch Linux for the past 2 months and I think it is the best distro from the ones I have tried (Gentoo,Kanotix,Mepis,Knoppel,Ubuntu,Kubuntu,Fedora Core 3) the past 8 months.

I am trying to convince people to know and try Arch Linux in the www.adsgr.com forum !!

I have a problem in printing Greek in Mozilla 1.7.8. Does anyone managed to do that?

Hello.

My printer is HP 3650 USB.

I have installed pacman -S cups ghostscript hpij

When i print with mozilla I select postscript/hp3650 and hp3650 is the printer i created through kde.

I think that a solution is the use of xprint but i am newbie and i don't know how to set this up. Anyone with a PKGBUILD?

I'll try to make a PKGBUILD for it (the scripts need patching, as they expect daemons in /etc/int.d while in Arch they are in /etc/rc.d), don't hold your breath though...
Actually I was thinking about making this package myself, as it's annoying having to use Konqueror to print some Greek webpage.
Of course the optimal solution would be reliable CUPS support within the Moz family apps, but up to date this fix doesn't seem to have a high priority... Evangelizing their xprint stuff the wrong way, probably?
