Problems with Graphic Card

Hi, I'm a newbie on Archlinux and I just install it on my rellativlly  old computer (Dell Optiplex GX270). I follow all steps of the Begginers guide and when I finally install and run the desktop environment (KDE) the desktop effects runs with lots of problems and I hardly can desactivate them. This is not a big problem because I would desactivate them anyway, but also the look of fonts is very poor. Antialiasing is activated and it's obvious that it is, but the appareance of fonts is still very poor.

I post it in this section because I don't think it is a KDE missconfiguration, but a Graphic card bad choice of drivers or perhaps a missconfiguration of this.

My graphic card is an "Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller", and I install "xf86-video-intel". When i intall it I don't do nothing more to configure xorg because guide says that it is optional for free controllers.

There is a pair of pics of the appareance of the fonts (by the way, i think firefox looks worst if it is possible):

Thank you for your help

Re: Problems with Graphic Card

Hi! I think, it's not your graphic card, but further configuration of fonts and look of gtk apps.

Follow this Wiki page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gtk. Firefox is GTK-based, you need to configure GTK (file ~/.gtkrc-2.0).

Also, for configuring Fonts: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fonts. And as your laptop is old, try using lighter programs and DE. See here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Li … plications

Goof luck!

Re: Problems with Graphic Card

Thank you. I forgot that Firefox was GTK. Now it looks better.
I don't try to fix the font problem yet, I will say something later.

Re: Problems with Graphic Card

Try infinality. Make sure to use the local.conf he provides. Also, you'll have to recompile firefox with "--with-system-cairo" to get it to use the proper font settings.
