Re: fglrx problem

It says the fglrx module does not exist. It means you didn't installed Catalyst properly or didn't rebuild the fglrx module after a major kernel upgrade.

Re: fglrx problem

i said i used the ati installer just like i did on my curent distro
i have everything that the ati installer installs
i have aticonfig and fglrxinfo and everything

and if i "find / -name fglrx" i get
/home/debian/usr/lib/fglrx
/home/debian/usr/lib/dkms/fglrx
/lib/modules/fglrx

if i cd /lib/modules/fglrx and [tab][tab][tab] i get
Display all 1257 possibilities? which is exactly what i get if i cd /home/debian/usr/lib/fglrx and then [tab][tab][tab]

yet when i modprobe fglrx it says no module found

i also used the repositories part from the ati catalyst wiki here
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AT … positories
and when i said pacman -S catalyst catalyst-utils it downloaded everything and said "Errors occured, no packages were upgraded"

i can't ever remove it because pacman -R fglrx says its not htere

Re: fglrx problem

You could try installing to opensource driver:

pacman -S xf86-video-ati

No other steps will be needed.

fglrx is just the name of the kernel module; the official driver name--and therefore the package name--is  catalyst-*.  The different varieties of it can be found in the Arch User Repository; there's an article in the wiki on ATI-Catalyst covering the package details installation.  It's best to use one of the AUR packages than to install manually, since you can use pacman to track the package and easily install an update.  I use catalyst-generator, since it's usually up-to-date and allows me to easily rebuild the module every time there's a kernel update.  If you want to use one of these packages, make sure you read up on ABS too.

As for xf86-video-ati: Depending on your graphics card, you may be able to play games in wine using it.  If you want to give it a shot, just look at the ATI section of the wiki.  DO NOTE: you will need to undo the changes you've made by installing the fglrx module to get it working (changes in mkinitcpio.conf, rc.conf, menu.lst, etc).  If possible, it might be best to work from a tty and follow the instructions to the letter.
