Touchpad not working properly on my Acer 1410 (11")

Hello all!

Recently I updated to the new 36 kernel, a new Intel DRI package, and some new KDE packages. This update fixed my KWin problems, but since I've been experiencing weird touchpad problems.

It looks like the mouse is lagging, but it doesn't 'feel' like it; it feels like there's 2 inputs it's detecting at the same time, even though there is only 1. Sometimes it also does a right mouse click when i tap on the touchpad.

Config files are the same, nothing has changed other than the update. I've checked the touchpad wiki and also done a Google search, nobody seems to have the same problem I'm having.

Thanks!

I also have touchpad issues lately. I was convinced it was because I spilled tea on my laptop but have noticed that the problem comes and goes.

I'm starting to blame a change in the system now. I'm exploring xorg and the mouse options available through Xfce and will report back if I find anything useful.

I can *kind of* confirm your bug, that is assuming mine is doe to an update and not tea.. smile

well...

It seems the Acer issue may be an Acer issue as there are quite a few threads on it in this forum alone.

As for me I fixed my problem by moving xorg.conf to xorg.conf.OLD and using an entirely blank xorg.conf

Thanks for finally replying! smile

I don't even use a xorg.conf, and it's been going smoothly until now. I've tried to modify my 10-synaptics.conf to match my KDE settings to see if that's a problem, or if it's reading two configs at the same time. Nothing has worked so far, even when I created a new user and logged into a brand new TWM session.

I'm going to whine and blame the new intel-dri package tongue .

Seriously, if anyone finds a solution, please post; if I get some time this weeked, I'll do a complete wipe and reinstall and see if it's something that I messed up.

EDIT: Well it's either the new DRI package or something that fixed my KWin issues.

A quick update: tawan's comment about other threads spurred me to go a-searchin', and I found 2 that are very similar:

This one is more about video issues but gave me a idea to install the LTS kernel (I'll check it out later today and see if it works): https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=109052

This one is seems to have the same topic (erratic touchpad) but it's more popular than my thread (no suprise there): https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=107583

I know I'm not on Acer or using the same setup as the OP but as I had spoken previously I should give my findings.

I eventually found the problem was xfdesktop (possibly conflicting with something new in compiz) - I seem to have fixed this by throwing out all the configs and remaking them and also removing the xfce4-settings-helper from my sessions. I hope this is a long-term fix.
