[Solved] No Mulitmedia Playback (Amarok, VLC), but still have sound

Don't know what changed from yesterday to today, other than a pacman -Syu, but now I don't have any audio in Amarok or VLC.  I'm running KDE and I have my usual Intel ALC888 listed in the Multimedia section.  But when I check the output devices in Amarok, it shows 'Internal Audio Analog Stereo' as the only output device listed.  I tried playing the same mp3 in VLC, and it failed as well.  So I fired up my web browser, hit last.fm, and was able to listen to audio streaming that way.

Was there an update that would have changed something on audio playback?

What additional info can I provide to help out?

Thanks!

Looks to be a problem with the Xine backend.  I downloaded and installed the VLC backend and Amarok is working now.

Was Xine updated recently?  I don't remember seeing it on the update list, but I may have missed it.  I'm running 64 bit, if that matters as well.

It was Phonon (and many other apps) that got updated for PulseAudio support.
If you're using PulseAudio, and Phonon with Xine backend, it might be good  to install xine-lib-pulse from AUR, or there may be some problems such as this one.

Looks like installing xine-lib-pulse worked for me, along with using the VLC backend.

I installed PulseAudio a few months back, but couldn't get it to work properly, so went back to Xine.  I thought I uninstalled it, but maybe not.

Thanks for the help, Xabre!

xine-lib-pulse isn't available anymore in AUR. Does anyone know why?

Thanks a lot, I do understand now.

@emg81: I know Google cache, but the question was why xine-lib-pulse was deleted.    wink
