New Install x86_64 ..-Syu problem

After install of x86_64 from download, performed pacman -Syy, and installed latest pacman via ..pacman -S pacman.

Installed upgrade packages with ...pacman -Syu.

The kernel thusly installed was version 1.1.34-1.

Repeated ...pacman _Syu several times with same version indicated in the list.

Tried ...pacman -S kernel26...result ...same version reinstall.

I am getting older and more forgetful (85) so I probably have forgotten how to upgrade correctly.

Pacman loads new packages...feh, mirage, xorg, vlc but does not upgrade the kernel.

What is missing?

There's no kernel named 1.1.34-1.

If you installed with the netinstall image, then the kernel is allready up-to-date...

If you installed from core image, then sorry I don't know the answer!

The mystery deepens.

Installed from flash drive arch install download some months back.

Where does the 1.1.34-1 version come from?

Will check uname -a for version info..........

Pacman -Syu does not upgrade this kernel.

Post the output of:

cat /etc/pacman.conf | grep Ignore

seems more likely that its an out of date mirror than an ignored package on a fresh install.

Will try the cat command and report results but probably can't post it from that system which is yet incomplete.

Cat and grep are pretty basic tools, if you cannot even run those on your setup, you messed up pretty badly.

As for the pipe, please don't abuse cat. Grep can read files just fine:

# grep Ignore /etc/pacman.conf

The cat command returned nothing.

Examination of pacman.conf shows no ignore elements uncommented.
