Re: VMWare player won't start

At a quick guess, try pacman -S libcanberra

Re: VMWare player won't start

Well I did a full reinstall after installing libcanberra, so that error has gone away, cheers

now i just get:

.
.
process 3347: Attempt to remove filter function 0x7f9544a3f330 user data 0x1f6d970, but no such filter has been added
D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace

Well I have no idea about that error, you may want to ask over at VMWare forums/

Is there any reason to use VMWare Player?  You could use either VirtualBox or Qemu as an alternative.

Re: VMWare player won't start

I had the same err:

"...
process 3034: Attempt to remove filter function 0x7f039ca88330 user data 0x190a5f0, but no such filter has been added"

Started the hal daemon and the message is now gone and vmware starts.

Hope it helps.

Re: VMWare player won't start

Same problem. Hal is already running. Vmplayer 3.1.3 on kernel 2.6.34.

Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module": libcanberra-gtk-module.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

But if started with sudo, it runs with clearlooks gtk theme, which suggests that probably its running its own gtk if started as root. Doesn't start at all as normal user.

Re: VMWare player won't start

Old thread, but vmware still has this c**p, nonsense error message...

NeoCrysis, thanks, it did actually help! smile

I posted this solution to the Arch wiki of vmware in the Troubleshooting section:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VM … leshooting

I wonder how you managed to guess that hal daemon needs to be started from this c**p error message?
