One of the usb ports on my eee 1001px all of a sudden stopped working! Is there any way I might test if it's a hardware problem or whether I've accidentally "switched it off" somehow via a software setting?
Cheers!

Check dmesg output while plugging in devices. You can also run
# udevadm monitor
while (un)plugging devices, if you don't see anything printed, that means there is a problem with your USB port(s) - unless the device itself you're trying to connect is defective.

Thanks. It seems the port is not functioning properly, unfortunately, as nothing registers with udevadm monitor - using the other port and the same usb device works fine, however, so it must be the port.

Upon returning to my office and, tentatively, plugging in my usb printer in the "broken" port, the port worked!! However, it seems to only be this printer which works using the port; neither my otherwise working usb mouse nor pen drive work and neither of them gives me any info in the udevadm. Could the port somehow be reserved? Any suggestions?
Cheers.
