Re: Nvidia problem.

That's strange, my X-server starts "instantly" and I'm using the "nvidia" driver. Did you use pacman to install nvidia?

Also, take a look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log and see if there are any warnings or errors that may slow down the startup process.

Re: Nvidia problem.

I should really check out that X.log. Especially if you're using the same xorg.conf on Gentoo as on Arch.

Re: Nvidia problem.

When you are back into console again, what does "xorg" say??

example: no screens found
font not initalizing
no mouse

as for the log:

type:

$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log |grep EE

to see only the errors

Re: Nvidia problem.

I guess this has to do with the nvagp settings in xorg

the machine does boot in X after those 2 minutes? or does your screen flicker and return to a shell afterwards?

apt-get install arch

Re: Nvidia problem.

My cuestion is... Does "nvidia" driver suport  Integrated GPU ???
I saw in a gentoo´s forum that nvidia driver makes coflicts with 2.6.10 kernel and higher, and recomends an 2.6.8 kernel, i dont know...
But "nvidia" run fine with AGP External GPU.

Re: Nvidia problem.

I have a nforce2 board. The latest nvidia drivers work fine here. Are you using udev? I had a problem with /dev/nvidiactrl permissions under devfsd which prevented glx from running.
